Trip Journal [recap] The Smoke Madness

We noticed the smoke around reno, as it started to replace the sky. by truckee we were in the thick of it. we wrapped wet bandanas around our faces and plowed through the never ending white fog. Exhuastion had passed somewhere in the doldrums of nevada and adrenaline and adderall were the only things keeping us going now. Hopes of camping in northern cali were quickly becoming thier own nightmare. The town of Nevada springs california, a overly quaint gold rush town turned tourist trap, harbored our exhausted bodies in its air conditioned old time cafe. Hopes of a room at a nearby yoga retreat peaked my interest, but the reality turned out to be disappointing. tangled up in windy mountain roads we finally found the krishna-esq compound, only to be told that its $55 a night to CAMP and that didnt even include the yoga program!

with that we high tailed it back to town even further depleted. Throats raw from the smoke inhalation and delerium setting in, we plodded on quite accidentally to sacremento, where my mother graciously reserved a motel room for us at the motel 6. we cracked out on TV and internet before finally passing out after 38 hours of uptime.

the next day we B-lined up Interstate 5 to oregon witnessing fires ranging in shasta on the way.

its the only time I've ever wanted to leave california, and I found myself saying the mantra of fuck cali the whole way out.

what a fucking inferno!
